May has been designated as National Electrical Safety Month so The National Electrical Safety Foundation recommends plugging in to the following safety tips when you are outdoors.
- Inspect power tools and electric lawn mowers before each use for frayed cords, broken plugs, and cracked or broken housings. If the product is damaged, stop using it immediately. Repair or replace it.
- When using tools or extension cords outdoors, make sure they are marked for outdoor use.
- Unplug all portable power tools when not in use. Do not leave a power tool unattended even for a brief period of time. The tool can be turned on by a child who could be seriously hurt.
- Never use electrical power tools in the rain or wet conditions.
- Metal ladders conduct electricity. Watch out for overhead wires and power lines.
